I was in the Maldives in 2011, once we walked around the island and went to the wrong place, more precisely, where local people live and work and where tourists do not belong! Everyone greeted us, they were very friendly and hospitable! I will definitely come to the Maldives again with my family! With love from Russia.

this is a very good video- and if I ever got the time and money to travel, I would surely support the locals. However- Christianity, bibles and even a cross around your neck can throw you in jail, export you, or in the instance of meeting as Christian, the death penalty. So even though they advertise themselves as a wedding paradise location, and many people from the west who are either cultural Christians or "believers" you have to be careful. I find it hypocritical of the government and the big hotels to push this paradise picture, knowing full well that it is no freedom of religion. Also, according to many sources, both Christian and NGOs there is a rise in abuse and sexual abuse of girls and women over the last 30 or 40 years.. and due to the law they have no rights.

Ive been to the 2nd most expensive resort on the Maldives for 10 days (yes, it cost what regular people earn in 2 years). But usually i stay in hostels of 2 to 3usd per night. So, i know the difference between rich and budget very well.
There are things you cannot get in the cheap places… For example: i didnt need to do a tour to see other places and have amazing drive spots with crazy ocean animals. My resort was located on such a spot… I had walked 300m into the ocean and it was still only waist deep. The food is definitely not the same. We had a Michelin chef cooking for us every night. Then you have the private bungalow experience with a swimming pool inside the ocean. No beaches with seaweed or other natural trash; just plain white clean beaches with barely any people. And very early in the morning the staff are creating extra beaches by sucking sand out of the ocean back onto the beach. Im not saying its worth the price tag, but there obviously is a huge difference between budget maldives and high end. Btw, i was on Mali (capital island) in 2013 for one night. So i was one of the first to also see the local area.

I spent 20K$ give or take for the honeymoon in sptember 2013 even though I bought our direct flight tickets by my miles… That price includes 10 days in an all inclusive resort, TMA sea plane transfer apx. 60mins to the resort located at the equador line, 1 + 1 night stay in Hulhulmale for 1st and last day, 2 extra diner in a crab/lobster restaurant, one snorkeling and one scuba trip, 10 days GoPro rental, and a couple of champagne…
This year I thougt if it's possible to do the exact same travel at exact same time (sep 2023) for our 10th anniversary, apparently with +1 kid 8 y'old… I've faced a shocking 38K$ price tag only for the resort + TMA transfers.. Additional 3K$ eoconomy-class plane tickets and other extra expeditions, which means it will easly jump to +50K$ all together… that means at least %100 raised prices, even the kid excluded.. I gave up in the end… if I could watched this video when it was published, we would definetely go.. maybe without same luxury but with same or more fun overall with 1/5 prices..
