maybe its me, but, it seems like the live bands that i swear performed for free in nearly every casino, are all gone, or nearly all gone..
Harrahs does have their Carnivale area, but, there were inside bands up and down the strip, and i just dont see nearly as many. some exist, but, not like years ago ( back to early 2000s). YOU would probably know better if some have just moved to Casino resorts i didnt visit.
I miss the smaller Casinos.. like Barbary Coast.. which had some of the cheapest Roulette on the strip, the "sidewalk" blackjack tables for $1-$2. the little poker rooms that have all disappeared where you could jump into tournaments for as little as $25.. all gone.. 😞
Vegas greed is now off the charts. latest gimmick that will make them MILLIONS a year..
you dont get your CHANGE back, when you cash in your slot tickets for redemption. you get another ticket for your change, and you HAVE to take it to a cashier to get your .56c.. nobody is standing in line for 5 min for a few pennies.. I lost probably $5 in change, as i simply didnt want to wait in various lines, up in down the strip, on these tickets.
now multiply that by 30 million visitors.. yea… Casinos just found a way to make an extra $100-200 MILLION a year, doing NOTHING but printing out a ticket that costs them next to nothing.

Babe you’re right, the formerly Hard Rock Hotel was a cool one-off. I stayed there many times. Back in the day the Riviera and Crazy Girls were excellent. But the Stardust and the Sands were iconic and very customer-friendly. I remember seeing the floor show, the Lido,there awhile back. Got to see Dean Martin and Jubilee at the MGM, now the Horseshoe on my first visit. Now I live here.

Wow. I didn't know that people were feeling nostalgic or miss parts of "old" Vegas. I guess every city has changed over the last 10 to 15 years. Even here in NYC, it's nothing like it was when I was y younger in the 90s/2000s. And nowadays, it's terrible. All the great bars and nightclubs are gone. Nothing but hipsters running around. Oh, and lots of crime.

clubs use to be really fun and didn't charge $100 cover. now it's just a money making racket. also dinner was a lot cheaper.

Also: as a self-professed hardcore raver grrrrrrrrrrl who LOVES her modern pool parties and nightclubs………….I feel equally as much as those who have nothing to do with the scene that we definitely should have a wide array of lounges and nightlife that appeal to different crowds and not just the ultra-trendy EDM/Latin/hip-hop nightclub, strip club and ultra-chic cocktail lounge persuasions. I just feel there's still a lot of untapped potential and that some demographics are being grossly overlooked and underrepresented.

What I really appreciate and respect about your list is that you offer very specific, concrete, anecdotal examples as to what you miss about Vegas as opposed to leaning on vague, nondescript abstracts a la "Vegas sucks now!" or "Vegas just isn't the same anymore!" like I hear all the time that often aren't followed by anything substantial.
Even though my tastes are more modern as a whole and I was introduced to Vegas later than you were so I concede the nostalgia factor certainly doesn't weigh as heavily on me, your sincerity and fondness for all these places is most palpable and I genuinely got a bit dewy-eyed in how you described these venues and resorts. While change should be embraced, I truly feel finding a balance between accepting change as well as honoring and preserving vintage Vegas essence is sooooooooooo important. 🌻

I too miss the Riviera. I was just a teenager the first several times I came to Vegas with my parents. I remember the Dunes and the Stardust and would be amazed and stare at their signs. But I'm most nostalgic about the Sands. We stayed there on one of my trips and Even at that young age I thought the rat pack were the coolest bunch of guys ever
